This article explains how to add patients into Melo to start recording data against them.

Adding & updating patients

The background description for a patient is a freetext area to be filled with details of the person, not the patient. This aims to bring new carers up to speed quickly and give clues on calming conversation topics.

Bookmarking is a way of pinning your most-accessed patients to common areas of Melo so they're always within reach. This could be high-agitation patients, recently referred, or patients on close observations. Use it however you find to be useful.

Behavioural data

These assessments are observational tools used to record and measure detailed aggressive behaviours (SASBA focusses on sexualised aggression) in patients with brain injuries. This allows teams to understand whether changes to care are effective by comprehensively measuring changes in behaviour.

ABC (Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence)

The ABC Plus is a more structured, richer version of the ABC form. It can additionally capture positive behaviours, sleep, and observation duration. It also contains more behaviour options with severity-descriptions. This aligns different people on what "moderate" means, for example. Finally, negative submissions calculate a weighted-severity meaning that ABC Plus observations are directly comparable to other Melo behavioural assessments.

ABS forms measure how present 14 behaviour types are in a patient whilst they’re being observed, from absent through to extreme. Answer each question with your best estimate.

Melo contains multiple assessment types for capturing agitation, each with their own severity scale. To simplify severity analysis across multiple assessment types Melo ‘equates’ these severity levels enabling a more holistic view.

How Melo equates severity levels between assessment types

Care tips act as a patient-specific toolbox for caring effectively for them. People enter what's worked for them when working with this patient, and others can upvote these tips. This results in a validated list of personalised strategies.

Care tips

Key events are timestamp markers which can be annotated onto timeseries graphs to highlight things like a change in care strategy or day-trips. This can be useful to determine if behaviour changes around these times.

This widget is designed to show which patients have been agitated the most, recently. the colourful badges represent the equated severity scale across all assessment types (ABC, etc.). The list is sorted primarily by most-negative-assessments within the timeframe, followed by severity.
